What we eat is essential to good health and that is enough to inspire my search for healthy menus.

When my family asks "what’s for dinner" too many times I would suggest that we go out to eat at our favorite restaurant because I was too busy to make dinner. And, it was easier.

We used to eat out at least twice a week which not only did it burn holes in my pocket, I started to put on a lot weight to the point that I couldn't fit into my clothes. I looked and felt terrible.

My doctor suggested that I need to improve my choice of foods, but with a weight loss diet and exercise would take care of the problem. She also recommended that I see a dietitian/nutritionist.

After a trip to a nutritionist, I have learned about healthy eating with a food diet plan. I cut back from excessive high sodium restaurant foods, prepackaged and prepared foods that can cause weight gain and heart disease.

Do you know a 12 inch hot dog on a bun contains 1360 milligrams of sodium/salt? When you compare that with a home cooked piece of 4 ounce pork roast, top loin that has only 50mg of salt, which choice would you make?

According to the American heart Associations, the daily intake of no more than 2300mg of salt for healthy American is recommended to maintain a healthy heart.

I decided to change my diet and cook more healthy meals at home. When we do go to a restaurant, I order low sodium, low fat meals, and I eat less and doggie bag what's left.

I shop for wholesome foods and avoid precooked meals. We snack on fruits and vegetables instead of chips or processed foods. I thought I needed more healthy recipes to help with my cooking.

After purchasing over a dozen cook books ranging from low carbs to vegan, low fat to Mexican, etc. I have collected many delicious healthy food recipes for all occasions.

I have used these easy recipes for cooking cheap and delicious meals and tried them on my family enough to call them our delicious healthy family meals.

These savory easy meal ideas are not only good to help with planning and eating well, I have lost a few extra pounds along with a 30 minutes daily exercise routine. I can now fit into my old clothes and looking a few years younger.

My family likes me as a home chef, now smarter with a kitchen stocked with healthy easy recipes. And we have the appliances for successful cooking.
